Malans Basin Update 7/09/07

Sale of Public Golf Course Stopped!
Ogden's Mayor Matthew Godfrey had a change of heart on Saturday when he
announced that he will not sell the Mt. Ogden Golf course to Developer
Chris Petersen. The mayor told the Standard-Examiner that
resident concerns for the city's foothills trail system and the loss of
the city-owned golf course prompted his decision.
This has been a very contentious issue for the Mayor, who is seeking
re-election this November. He has helped the developer promote this
project over the past year and a half dispite the division it caused
with the residents of Ogden. If anything, this was a brilliant
political move on his part.
The gondola idea may still be lingering, but it looks like it could be
an uphill battle from here on out. The proposal, or lack there of (one
was never formally submitted), had the golf course slated for the
development of 400 homes which would be sold to fund the urban gondola.
Now the homes are homeless for the time being and we hope that the
gondola idea is headed in the same direction.
Good work to all those who made their voices heard regarding access to
trails and the value of our public lands!
The Ogden City Council
will be discussing the Mt. Ogden Community Plan on July 17, 2007.
