Save Our Canyons, a grassroots organization based
in Salt Lake City
dedicated
to protecting the beauty of the Wasatch, is seeking a highly motivated
candidate to support the local staff and office.
The SL County Private Lands Coordinator
will coordinate
private land issues in Salt
Lake County
while promoting the mission of Save Our Canyons. This position will
have an
initial emphasis on Big
Cottonwood Canyon,
but will focus on other canyons in the area as the program becomes more
established. This person will be responsible for developing
relationships with
canyon residents and stakeholders, documenting land ownership,
reviewing Salt
Lake County FCOZ ordinances and pending building applications, and
project
specific fundraising. They will work under the direction of the
Executive
Director and will act as a contact for the general public on these
issues. The
Lands Coordinator will also be responsible for fundraising efforts to
sustain
and support the ongoing private lands program.
Applicants must have good communication
skills, the ability
to conduct research on property issues, an outgoing personality and be
self-starting.
Interested individuals must have the ability to multi-task and operate
efficiently
and professionally both in and outside the office.
Job
Description:
Responsibilities will include: building
relationships with
property owners and other stakeholders, attending community meetings
and
representing SOC, tracking County Council and community agendas,
keeping
records of property ownership, coordinating SOC’s private lands issues
in the Salt
Lake County
area, and general
office and staff support. Applicants should have a reliable means of
transportation.
Skills
- Be able to work independent with
minimal supervision
- Strong grasp of Microsoft Office—Excel
and Word
- Excellent verbal and written
communication skills
- Well-developed problem-solving and
analytical skills
- Ability to create and foster
relationships
- Highly organized and a demonstrated
ability to prioritize tasks
- The ability to work some nights and
weekends
- A sense of humor and a willingness to
work in a non-traditional environment
This position is half-time and
would be based in the Salt
Lake City office of
Save Our Canyons. Salary commensurate with experience. Please send
